Herb Hodge Rd, Washington Co., TN (Austin Springs Area along Watauga River)
March 28, 2008 - 6:00pm
3 Lesser Yellowlegs
3 Greater Yellowlegs
4 Pectoral Sandpiper
1 Osprey
It was interesting to watch the Osprey raise up in the air after an
unsuccessful dive into the water. After it gained 20-30 feet of
altitude it stopped flapping, pulled its wings in close and quickly
shook itself from head to tail to get rid of excess water, doing it
quickly enough that it dropped no more than a foot before resuming
flight. A few minutes later it made a successful dive and flew off with
its catch to a tree on the hill down stream of the Austin Springs bridge.
