Various spots around Old Hickory Lake
Wilson Co.
Thirteen individuals joined the Lebanon Birding Club, ( John Sellars
Chapter of TOS) met at Laguardo Rec Area Saturday morning for birding
before our Regular monthly meeting.
Laguardo Rec Area
Ruddy Ducks
Mallards
N. Rough-winged Swallows
Purple Martin's
Tree Swallows
Barn Swallows
DC Cormorants
and Black Vultures doing there Spring moves. Told them to get a room, but
they ignored me.
Other regular land birds seen.
Next everyone followed me to the Great Horned Owl nest for nice views of
two owlets. They were not as active as the day before. It was colder and
the wind was blowing.
Cedar Creek Rec Area
Everyone got good views of the Bald Eagle nest with adult sitting on limb
near it. Appeared juvenile was in nest. Lots of shimmer and wind by this
time. It was hard to get a clear view at the distance. Ospreys were on
their nest. The day before I observed the male flying around grabbing
leaves and taking them to the nest. We had Buffleheads fly buy and a group
of Am. White Pelicans were seen swimming. They disappeared into a cove.
Cormorants were nesting on the small island. Unfortunately it seems the
Cormorants have run off the Cattle Egrets that used to nest on this island.
Have not seen them here in 2 years.
