The Bells Bend Park LE CONTE'S SPARROW originally reported by Tony Lance last thursday, and since seenby a handful of other Nashville birders, was present again today ~ 7:10am. This was my third try for theindividual, and probably my 10th time trying to see this species.... they DO exist!!!! Now I just need a Baird'sto round out my favorite sparrow genus... I photographed the bird this morning through heavy fog (It was 36F when I stepped out of my vehicle) in thesame location Frank Fekel had him yesterday: from the Nature Center, walk past the barn on the right, and continue through the next wood line into the next field. On your left will be two nest boxes, and hopefully ahandful of Henslow's Sparrows singing further into the field. The LeConte's was located approximately 50feet past the second nest box, and quite close to the trail. After about ten seconds of seeing me, the bird flewoff into the scrub (left side of trail) and was not seen again during the hour or more I waited. FYI- this bird is silent, and has not responded to pishing, playback, or even an impromptu song and dance routine..... Ed SchneiderNashvilleDavidson Co.
