Nine (9) Laughing Gulls appeared at Musick's Campground, South Holston Lake, Sullivan Co., today (9/27) as our party participated in the Northeast Tennessee Fall Count. As far as I know, this is the 10th record for the species Northeast Tennessee and the latest fall date. The party was comprised of Rack Cross and Wallace Coffey. Other good birds for the day included what is believed to be the area's earliest fall record for the Horned Grebe 2, Eared Grebe 3, Pied-billed Grebe 15, American Wigeon 4, Peregrine Falcon 1, Virginia Rail 1 (Shady Valley, Johnson Co.) and Marsh Wren 2 (Shady Valley). The gulls were seen following a strong thunderstorm with high winds which swept the area about 4 p.m. A rainy front moved into the area today Let's go birding....
