This island used to be an all-but-exclusive Great blue heron rookery, but the
Double-crested cormorants seem to have progressively commandeered it. In past
years, I've occasionally seen Great egrets there as well.
I haven't kept strict count, but this year seems to have been a good one for
Ospreys in the Kingston area. Do any of you keep a census here? If so, what do
your numbers show? Sadly, we'll be losing the Osprey nest on top of the old US
70 bridge when they finish the new bridge and blow the old one apart. Last
night I saw 3 Ospreys on the nest as I drove across.

The small island on the East end of Kingston Steam Plant Wildlife refuge (
But visible from Ladds Landing in Kingston ) About 100 Cormorants , 2 or 3
great Blues on nest , about 15 Cattle Egrets at about 7 - 8 PM . Exit at
Kingston ( The City ) turn left - go about 1 mile on left to TWRA/Kingston
parking area of Ladds Landing . Look across the lake and about 20 degrees left
to a
very small island. There you are !!!!!!!
