Yesterday evening (9/5), I had a personal location record of 499 Common
Nighthawks over downtown Elizabethton between 7:15-8:03. They were coming from
the Northeast, North, Northwest, West, and few even southwest at one point and
generally heading south/southeast toward Hampton, TN. I also had 157 Common
Nighthawks fly over Friday night (9/3).
Also note I have a 250 to 400 bird strong Chimney Swift roost in a chimney
across the street as you start into downtown Elizabethton. It’s always fun
watching those go to roost after Nighthawks finish. My large roost of House
Finches aren’t quite as big as they used to me but they’re still very
respectable and about 50 to 75.
