Join us for a Jay Walk (an impromptu, supplemental KTOS event) to experience
the splendor of the sunflowers at Forks of the River WMA. There's a small
chance of early showers, but no chance that the dawn chorus won't be vibrant
and inspiring, or that the Indigo Buntings won't be flitting through the yellow
fields. July is slow for birding, but we still expect to see upwards of 40
species, including Osprey, Bald Eagle, Green Heron, Yellow-billed Cuckoo,
Ruby-throated Hummingbird, Blue Grosbeak, White-eyed Vireo, Yellow-breasted
Chat, and Field Sparrow, among others.

Meet in the parking lot at the end of McClure Lane a few minutes before 6:30
a.m. This will be a short, slow-paced walk, and we will stop often to admire
the sunflowers. Photographers, as always, are encouraged to join us.

For directions, see the TN Watchable Wildlife site at
http://www.tnwatchablewildlife.org/watchareadetails.cfm?uid=10032816101792223®ion=Forks_of_the_River_WMA&statearea=East_Tennessee

This is a free event. No RSVP required, and you do not have to be a member of
KTOS to attend.

Gold 'n' Blue Sunrise
by Jay Sturner

On glistening sunflowers,
In ghosts of morning mist,
Whistle-buzzy buntings
Set the pace of my day.
