Chad Smith and I enjoyed great weather and better birds today at Ky Lake. We started at Bennett's Creek overlook, specifically in the field south of the observation deck. We had our best success in the area east of the levee and south of the creek leading to the lake. In this area we saw one Lincoln's Sparrow, 2 Marsh Wrens, loads of Swamp and Song Sparrows, and best of all, 2 lovely Nelson's Sharp-tailed Sparrows. We also saw one Ammodramus that defied identification, our best guess was immature Grasshopper Sparrow. At the point, the gull roost was mostly Ring-billed and Herring with a few Forster's Terns as well. One Greater Yellowlegs wandered around in the shallow water. Our next productive stop was at Eagle Creek where the gull roost yielded many Ring-billed and Herrings, a dozen Forster's Terns, 2 Franklin's Gulls, and a first year California Gull. A Bald Eagle interrupted the proceedings before confirmatory photos could be made, At Little Eagle Creek, several hundred A White Pelicans loafed on the mudflat with some Great Egrets for company. The island (not yet) at Paris Landing is still under water, scattered gulls were seen floating on the lake. Terry Witt Murfreesboro Tn
