The Knoxville CBC was held on Saturday, 30 Dec 2006. I've only gotten a handful of the results in but a few good birds have been reported. Susan Hoyle reported 2 FISH CROWs in their usual spot in Lyon's Bend (near the Sage Thrasher spot from a few years back). Voice recordings were made. This is the first time Fish Crow has been reported on a Knoxville CBC or Knox County Spring or Fall count. Carole Gobert and Chris Foelli had an OSPREY at Pellissippi State campus in west Knox Co. A rarity in winter. Photos were taken. Warren Bielenberg and I, and later Tom Howe, had 2 COMMON GOLDENEYEs at Louisville Point Park in Blount Co. This species was once much more regular on this CBC but has become rare. 2 parties so far have reported RED-HEADED WOODPECKERs. Other good finds to date include NORTHERN HARRIER, SANDHILL CRANE, LOGGERHEAD SHRIKE, BROWN-HEADED NUTHATCH (many), VESPER SPARROW, and COMMON GRACKLE. Yes, grackles really have become a hard bird to get on the Knoxville CBC, and BH Cowbird is so far only a count- week bird but we had this one staked out so hopefully it was found on count day (haven't gotten that report yet). With less than 1/3 of the results in, we're at 82 species but several more species are expected. If you haven't turned in your results yet, please email or bring them to the Wed night KTOS meeting (I'm planning to be there as of now). And thanks to all who participated.
