I birded TVA's Kingston Steam Plant in Roane County, TN on March 29, 2007
from 9:30 am to 10:50 am. Watts Bar water level was 735.87 feet which is
enough to expose 5-10 acres of mudflats in the river. The following is a
select list of birds observed:
1. Double-crested cormorant- 2
2. Great blue heron- 10 but there are plenty more out in the forks of the
rivers in a heronry
3. Wood duck- 1
4. Gadwall- 5
5. Green-winged teal- 1
6. Osprey- 4 two pair near nests
7. Northern harrier- 1
8. American coot- 54
9. Killdeer
10. Pectoral sandpiper- 2 on mudflat in river
11. Greater yellowlegs- 1 in steam plant pond
12. Herring gull- 1 it was a big gull that wasn't a ring-bill. I did not
see if it may be a rare gull
13. Bonaparte's gull- on mudflat in river. Some with black hoods
14. Tree swallow
15. Barn swallow
16. Northern rough-winged swallow
17. Blue-gray gnatcatcher- 1
