Saturday afternoon, I was at Knoxville's Island Home Airport and saw a family of Killdeer - Mom, Dad, and three babies - scurrying around in the grass near the Remote Area Medical hangar. They were in the same area early Sunday morning, too. The airport is a great habitat for them. Last week, my husband observed two male and one female bluebirds in the area of one of the nest boxes we have put up at the airport. I've heard of the young from the first brood helping with the second, but this is surely the first nesting for the year. This box is near the light tower and easily viewable from the parking lot.
