Steve and I were able to get out and about mid-afternoon to check out our two
favorite bodies of water here in Clarksville.
First stop was The new Clarksville Marina. Present were: 20 Ring-billed Gulls,
1 Red-Shouldered Hawk, 1 Mallard, 1 Northern Shoveler, 1 Bufflehead, 7 Lesser
Scaup, 1 Redhead Duck and still with us, the White-winged Scoter. Work
continues down there full steam ahead but the noise and chaos of the trucks and
back hoes didn't seem to bother any of the waterfowl as they went about their
business of diving and feeding along the edges.
After leaving there we headed for Dunbar Cave State Park. Today we were
treated to two "new" visitors. First was a female Kingfisher. We could hear
her calling as we got out of the car and there she was perched on a snag on the
opposite side of the Lake. Our other treat there was a Cackling Goose.
Swimming along on the Lake among the 444 Canada Geese. Also present were 1
Ring-necked Duck, 4 American Coots, 25 Mallards, 8 Redhead Ducks, 2
Canvasbacks, 1 Gadwall and 1 Great Blue Heron.

Hope to see a good many of you this weekend down at Hiwassee at the Sandhill
Crane Festival.

Until then,
Happy birding!
