I'm finally getting around to posting this. I started a new job so things have
been a bit hectic.
The Jackson, Madison county, TN Christmas Bird Count was held on Saturday,
January 1, 2005. We had 5 persons in 2 parties in the field. Weather was
mostly sunny with highs in the low 50's. It was a bit breezy with winds out of
the west at 10-20 mph. We tallied 82 species which is about average for this
count but a little below the last couple of years.

Highlights include:

- Good numbers of waterfowl consisting of 13 different species including Common
Goldeneye (3rd count record) seen by Mike Todd & Don Manning at Lake Graham.
- Least Sandpiper (1st count record, but overdue) - at Lake Graham by Mike Todd
& Don Manning.
- Eurasian Collared-Dove - no doubt this species is here to stay, seen in 3
locations
- Fish Crow - this species is now almost annual with the large crow roost in
the Jackson area. Three were seen & heard by Elizabeth Barnett, Peggy Hardman,
and Mark Greene at Cypress Grove Nature Park in Jackson.

Other notables included: Sharp-shinned Hawk, American Pipit, Loggerhead Shrike,
Pine Warbler, Rusty Blackbird, and Purple Finch.

Misses were: Cooper's Hawk, N. Bobwhite, Red-headed Woodpecker, Red-breasted
Nuthatch, and Brewer's Blackbird.

Participants were: Elizabeth Barnett, Mark Greene, Peggy Hardman, Don Manning,
and Mike Todd.

I'll post totals here later.

Good birding,
