Estill Springs

November 19

The recent wind and rain storms did not persuade the Hudsonian Godwit to leave.
When I arrived at the spot around 8:20 this morning, Frank Fekel was already
looking at the bird. Very foggy conditions, but the bird could still be easily
seen hobbling around not far away on the edge of an island covered in gulls.
Steve Zipperer and another birder arrived as I was leaving. Great lifer and
state bird that I missed several years ago at Rankin Bottoms by one day. This
one basically came to me, choosing a spot about 25 minutes from my house. If
anyone else is interested, the bird is there and pretty easy, showing no signs
of going anywhere.
