There is a large colony of Henslow's Sparrows present at Bark Camp Barrens in Coffee County. Leave I-24 at Exit 111 and take Hwy 55 a short distance toward McMinnville and then turn right on Ragsdale Road for 6 miles. Go right on Hickerson Road for a few miles and when the road turns 90 degrees left and enters the sod farm, continue straight on the gravel road (poor condition) for a mile or so until the road makes a 90 degree left turn. Park here and the birds are in the field behind the pile of rocks intended to discourage vehicle traffic. By walking along the treeline, it will be easy to hear singing birds, many of which will be on the ground. But there will also be birds perched on the bushes and small trees, and with patience, one can expect a good view. The birds tend to ignore tape, a spotting scope may be helpful. Also present are Field Sparrows, Yellow-breasted Chat and Prairie Warbler, Indigo Buntings and N Bobwhite. There will be a field trip of the Chattanooga chapter of TOS on June 18 We will meet at the Discovery Center in Murfreesboro at 7AM CDT and we will visit the Henslow's Sparrows as well as try for Bewick's Wren, Scissortailed Flycatcher, maybe Lark Sparrow, Grasshopper Sparrow, and others Anyone is welcome Terry Witt Murfreesboro Tn =================NOTES TO SUBSCRIBER===================== The TN-Bird Net requires you to SIGN YOUR MESSAGE with first and last name, CITY (TOWN) and state abbreviation.
