Birders,
There is nothing special about me seeing a Great Blue Heron in my backyard-I
have a creek. Today, however, the subject was a little different. The bird
cruised the edge of the creek then moved back about 20' in the flat area which
covers several springs that feed the creek. He proceded to graze or pull up
stuff from this ground-what I can't imagine. In the spring and early summer
this piece of ground resembles a south Louisiana yard with crawfish mounds all
over the place. I just wonder if this bird was finding crawfish with his long
beak. I have not noticed this behavior in the winter before today.
