Checklist Comments: Based on the interesting report by Melvin Martin from
31May20, I decided to try my luck at birding a two lane TN highway to see what
I might find, and I was not disappointed.Made a round trip of the route. All
birding done from the road which was unusually quiet for that time of day. Did
not get all the species that Melvin had, but did not miss many, and came up
with a few surprises. Had a total of 55 species, but more importantly, 31 were
new for the county for me! Enjoyable morning for this visiting East Tennessee
resident. Thanks, Melvin, for your report.

Northern Bobwhite 2 Heard the first bird across from the county sheriff's
house. Thought it interesting that both birds were heard in areas inundated by
kudzu.
Mourning Dove 8
Chuck-will's-widow 1 Once I had cleared the highly residential part of the
west end, stopped close to where I thought Melvin lived and listened to the
predawn chorus, where I heard the chuck. He reported a whip on his property.
Great Blue Heron 1 Water supply pond on west end, as were the mallards.
