Obion & Gibson County

I was out and about in Obion County today and had a few birds of note, but
nothing spectacular, well except the weather! What a nice day to be outside!

I had 2 adult Bald Eagles soaring up high over the Obion River bottoms along
Hwy 45W north of Kenton. On a private lake on Walter Whipple Road in the north
part of the county I had 27 Hooded Mergansers. On Burrus Road, northwest of
Union City I had 2 Fish Crows and also a single Vesper Sparrow. I had 3 Western
Meadowlarks in a corn stubble field on Mt. Olive Rd. which is also northwest of
Union City.

Just north of Trenton in Gibson County in a pond along Hwy 45W I had 272
Canvasbacks and 12 Lesser Scaup. There have been Canvasbacks on this pond off
and on all winter. They disappeared earlier in the week when the pond froze
over but were back this morning. This was the most I've had at this location
but I've had over 100 a couple of times. When I came back by this afternoon
there was a guy on the pond in a boat fishing and there was only one scaup
present. I have now named this spot Canvasback pond.

Good birding,
