Our first yard sighting of this bird, the individual was under our feeder, blending in with the leaves while eating sunflower seeds. Gorgeous bird, typical "red" sub-species. Brings the yard list to 112 sp. Also yesterday while sparrowing @ Bell's Bend Park (SONG, SWAMP, WHITE-THROATED, no savannah or rarities), I took a right out of the parking lot towards the river to look for the N. Harrier, but with no luck. LinnAnn Welch said the harrier flew over the park that morning. Around sunset it became very birdy, with thousands of starlings and close to 1000 American robins flocking and foraging pre-roost. I saw 3 EASTERN MEADOWLARKS flying across the road from field to field, a common occurance out there, but I pulled over for a minute to observe. Then another group of 5 flew across, then another! All told, I counted 31 meadowlarks, the largest number I've seen in Bell's Bend in such a small area, though as shy and skulking as they are on the ground this may not be a large number in reality.
