Walked around Fort Negley at lunch today. Fort Negley is a partially restored Civil War Era Fortification owned by Metro Parks - recently renovated and reopened. It sits atop a hill overlooking Downtown Nashville, between Greer Stadium and the Adventure Science Center, with a paved trail encircling the hill, with a spur to the top of the hill and around the ruins of the fort. Most unusual find was a small "flock" of Brown Creepers - at least 4, possibly 5 in one small area. Since I have not seen or heard them at Fort Negley before, they are probably migrants. There were still about 20 Dark-eyed Juncos about, as well as several Chipping Sparrows (new to me at the Fort), Song Sparrows, a single Fox Sparrow, at least one Field Sparrow, many White-throated Sparrows, 2 Eastern Phoebes and a Yellow-bellied Sapsucker. Usual residents were also present: Robin, Crow, Goldfinch, Eastern Towhee, Mockingbird, Cardinal, and Chickadee. Fort Negley can be accessed from I-65, exit 81 (Wedgewood Ave). Follow signs to Greer Stadium/Adventure Science Center. The parking is on Fort Negley Blvd, between the stadium and the Science Center.
