Morgan Tingley is a post-doc in my lab, he's a fantastic guy, and he needs
a field assistant for a fantastic project in the Great Smokies (Tennessee
side).  He'll pay you well too!  Feel free to forward around or pass along

BIRD SURVEY LEADER needed for work in Great Smoky Mountains National Park, TN.
Duration: Approx 6 weeks (June 1 through July 13). Job Type: Seasonal.
Application Deadline: Position will be open until filled. Job Description:
Study of the long-term changes in bird communities in the stunning southern
Appalachians, comparing current surveys to historic ones. Primary
responsibilities include daily morning surveys (avian point counts), vegetation
sampling at survey locations, and helping to set up new survey routes. Field
work will be conducted either in pairs (e.g., vegetation surveys) or solo
(point counts). Many afternoons may be free, but few mornings. Qualifications:
Applicants must have demonstrable experience and proficiency in identification
of eastern birds by sight and sound; familiarity with identification of eastern
trees and vegetation desired. Applicants must be in great physical condition,
able to work independently in rugged terrain, and willing to work in a diverse
array of environmental conditions. Applicants must also have well developed
organizational skills, a valid driver?s license with a good driving record,
enthusiasm for birds and the outdoors, and a sense of humor. Applicants must
have their own vehicle (non-4WD is okay) and will be reimbursed for mileage.
Stipend of approximately $3300 for entire season (no benefits), plus housing
