Not from TN but I found this post below from Bill Hilton, Jr to the CarolinaBirds listserv rather interesting. Bill has been banding Pine Siskins coming to their feeders during the snow the last couple of days in York, SC. The interesting thing to me is that he banded 95 yesterday and 42 more today with NO recaptures. So what one might have thought was the same flock visiting as yesterday, was in fact, a different flock. That's quite a turnover and makes you think about estimates of how many birds are coming to your feeders. Reminds me of Bob Sargent's hummingbird banding efforts and his rule of thumb of multiplying the number of hummingbirds you 'think' you have by at least 6. Also banded two male Red-winged Blackbirds today--a species that might not be exciting to some but they were only the 23rd & 24th banded here in three decades. Happy Snow Birding!
