I couldn't reisist the lure of a new TN bird and hurried down to Ensley to see
the White-faced Ibis Q.B. Gray found earlier and Jeff Wilson relocated this
afternoon. The cool temps and clear skies made for good looks at an assortment
of birds. 30 Black-bellied Whistling Ducks were visible from one spot, with 10
or so others scattered about. Northern Bobwhites crossed every levee we drove
and called all around. I saw 9 Sora but surely there are others hidden in the
weeds. Stilts are everywhere, one had fuzz ball young nearby. I saw two
gosling-trains behind parent Canada Geese. Dicksissels, Mourning Doves,
Killdeer, and Red-winged Blackbirds are everywhere. Shorebirds scattered about
included one White-rumped Sandpiper and several Short-billed Dowitchers.
Mallards, Wood Ducks, Northern Shovelers, American Coots, and Blue-winged Teal
paddle the pools. I saw one Blue Grosbeak, and one Cattle Egret remains. The
Anhinga pair was lounging on perches at the big pool on Riverport Rd.

By the way, they were taking down orange detour signs as I drove down Weaver
Rd., I expect Mitchell is open now and maybe the Riverpark access to Riverport
Rd.
