Chuck,
Thank you for the information. I will continue to watch the nest since it is
visible-with binos from the front porch while sipping iced tea. At last
report, I could make out two wide-gaping yellow mouths.

This nesting attempt may follow the pattern of the one listed in the atlas. I
wrote Wallace Coffey for help with identification on 7/17 (coincidence?). At
that time, she was already on the nest. I believe these hatched a few days
ago, from observations I made of activity at the nest. I watched as momma or
daddy tried stuffing a big-winged bug of some kind down the kiddies throats.
That didn't work, so they ate it themselves.

My biggest concern is the migration aspect of these newly hatched individuals.
Will they have enough time to develop and be strong enough to make the flight?

Porch birding during the dog days...

Anna,
This nesting is getting late. The latest nesting dates available at the
time the "Atlas of the Breeding Birds of TN" went to press are: nest with
eggs - 7/17, nest with young - 7/31, and dependent fledglings - 8/27.

For many birds nesting in TN, including several songbirds that are fairly
common, we have relatively little information on their nesting habits during
mid-summer. A major reason for this is because many fewer birders are out
looking for nesting songbirds at this time of year, compared to late spring
and early summer.

Please keep an eye on this nest, and let me know the date on which the young
leave the nest.

Hi all,

I've got an Eastern Wood-Pewee nesting at this time in the yard. The eggs
must have hatched, both parents are seen feeding.

Is this a late nesting, or pretty typical for this specie?

In response to a posting by Wallace Coffey, I think middle aged men talk a
lot more about Victoria's Secret as compared to middle aged women...

The bird question is a serious one.
