Leslie Gibbens and I went out to Dutch Bottoms this afternoon to see if by
chance there were American White Pelicans; last year six had stopped over for
about a week. Sure enough, there were six there today. Also at Dutch Bottoms:
27 Green-winged teal
40+ Double-crested cormorant
A pair of osprey nesting on a silo.
There was also a nesting pair on the silo at 10-Islands ( we saw them from
Brown's Hollow Road, the first right after leaving Rankin Bottoms); a pair on
the Old Rankin Bridge; and a fourth pair of ospreys building a nest on top of
the coal tipple at Rankin Bottoms.
Also at Rankin:
9 Common snipe
4 Northern shoveler
3 American widgeon
2 Wood duck
1 Swamp sparrow
30 ring-billed gull
1 Brown thrasher
1 Yellow-rumped warbler
12 Black vultures
& etc.
