12/24/03 Obion River Bottom near McKenzie Carroll Co. A nice surprise on my way home from work this morning was a gorgeous adult dark-morph Western Red-tailed Hawk, in my native Carroll Co. for a change. The bird was perched in a big flooded bottom area, overlooking an area that is fairly heavily duck hunted. This area has been great over the years for raptors, everything from Ospreys, a Peregrine, and multiple Bald Eagles, although the Eagles haven't shown up in this area this winter. True to form for the dark Red-tails, this bird didn't like my attention and promptly flew about the time I got my scope out. Good birding and Happy Holidays to all!!
