[TN-Bird] Cove Lake State Park, Campbell Co., 01/30/11

In an effort to enjoy the beautiful weather, we birded Cove Lake State Park
(Campbell County) between 3:10 p.m. and 5:35 p.m. today.  Most notable birds
were 75+ Gadwall, 10+ Hooded Mergansers, and one male Ring-necked Duck. No
eagles or other raptors were seen. The park was busy with so many people out
(including children using rocks and slingshots against the ducks and geese
with whom I had to intervene) that bird activity in the area was quiet until
dusk.

Canada goose

Gadwall

Mallard

Ring-necked duck 

Hooded merganser

Great blue heron 

Ring-billed gull

Belted kingfisher

Red-bellied woodpecker

Downy woodpecker

Hairy woodpecker

Northern flicker

Blue jay

American crow

Carolina chickadee

Tufted titmouse

White-breasted nuthatch

Carolina wren

Kinglet sp.

American robin

Northern mockingbird

Brown thrasher

Eastern towhee

White-throated sparrow

Dark-eyed junco

Northern cardinal
