Cove Lake State Park, Campbell County I birded Cove Lake for about 2 hours this morning. The lake is unusually low - about 6 feet below the normal pool level. Normally this lake, which is an arm of Norris Lake with its own retention dam, does not have a noticeable winter drawdown. There were large areas of flats, partially ice-covered, and most of the open water areas were frozen over. Most of the waterfowl were in the streams flowing across the mudflats and near the campground.
