Greetings Birders,

For a half hour (11 to 11:30 A.M.), I watched a VERY FAT adult male
Cooper's hawk on my deck rail. He then flew to a power line behind the deck
in
the Charlotte Park area in West Nashville four blocks from the old Cleece's
Ferry boat landing. Three squirrels taunted and teased him, and he made no
move toward them until one came within two feet of him on the rail, and he
hopped toward it and chased it into the grape vines. The hawk then
returned to where he'd been perched. He made no effort to capture the
squirrel.
As fat as the hawk is, I think he is just NOT hungry at this time. As
languidly as the hawk moved and flew, I think he was simply trying to digest
an earlier "catch" thus had no appetite. His presence, however, did put my
chipmunks and other birds into hiding.

Happy birding on this overcast day.
