Shelby Bottoms Phase 1 and 2
East Nashville, Davidson Co
Mary Zimmerman and I birded Phase 1 and 2
of Shelby Bottoms this morning, in search of
Connecticut and Mourning Warblers.
Just past the first bridge along the river in phase
1, we heard and had great looks at a singing
Connecticut. A second Connecticut was found
in the woods in phase 2, where the Swainson's
Warbler has been present (and still is) since April.
We ran into Michael Bernard, who put us on
a singing Alder Flycatcher in phase 1, the 4th
record for this species at Shelby this Spring.
As we were almost back to the parking area
in phase 1, Michael saw a Cuckoo land in
a tree in front of us. After a few minutes of
searching, out popped his life Black-billed
Cuckoo!
