That literature is way, way off...the right size is more like one and a quarter to one and a half. The university literature has the correct dimensions, so please don't think that two and a half to three inches came from "our" pamphlet. ( I work for UT, or at least I usually do, but we are on furlough until the budget crisis is resolved.) I do think there may be a building plan availabe from your county extension office for bluebird houses and wood duck boxes. Also sometimes the 4-h-ers sell them for money raising...
