I was out riding bikes with my wife this evening and while checking out a few dozen swifts flying over "downtown" Smyrna at sunset, I saw a bunch of nighthawks higher up flying south. I quickly pulled over and counted 20. They were all flying about due south, maybe a little southwest. We got home about 5 min later and had 5 more fly over the house, headed in the same direction. I'll have to start watching a little before sunset for nighthawks moving south! Good biking and birding (again), Scott Somershoe State Ornithologist Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency P.O.
