Hi Folks I am just so pleased I can hardly stand myself. Last Summer I built a Chimney Swift tower in my yard. It was quite a bit of work and cost about $400 which was more than I had anticipated spending. I watched it last fall and had birds low over the house but I never saw one enter the tower. Then on Monday (5/19) while I was working in the yard there were four and maybe more swifts over the house chittering and flying in formation and we saw one dive into the tower. I opened the peep hole in the bottom and about six places inside the tower sticks were glued to the surface. I'm guessing that they have been using the tower more than this one day. Yesterday evening I staked out the tower and at 8:50 PM two birds flew in and this morning before dawn I could hear them chittering inside. Obviously I'm pretty pleased that the birds are using something that I built. I work at a zoo and this summer some Eagle scouts are going to build a tower there so a little success will also help that project. Just wanted to share.
