Two HORNED LARKS, 2 American Pipits and two Vesper Sparrows were seen at the
overgrown parking lot next to the building site. Horned Larks are always a

prime for possible Lapland Longspurs, Snow Buntings etc.

Also at the marsh were:
1 Gray Catbird (late)
5 ring-necked Ducks
5 American Wigeon
51 Gadwall

5 Common Loons were above Chickamuga Dam.

The hawkwatchers had an excellant day at Soddy Mountain on November 8 (Bill

1 GOLDEN EAGLE (first of the season)
15 Northern Harriers (high daily total for the site)
282 Turkey Vultures
4 Bald Eagles
133 Sandhill Cranes in five separate groups

Sandhill Cranes have begun to migrate through our area. The first report
came from Hiwassee Island (Meigs co.) where two different groups were heard
on October 24. (Richard Simms). Six cranes were seen at Armstrong Bend on
November 6. (David Aborn)
Between four and six hundred Sandhills were seen in the Blythe Ferry area on
Sat. October 8. (Dennis Harris). A flock of at least a dozen Cranes was
heard over Chester Frost Park on the night of November 8. (Kevin Calhoon).
Over a thousand cranes were seen over the Hiwassee Refuge area on November
