Humphreys County New Johnsonville Clayton Ferrell I am beginning to think there may be a need to provide meal worms for our feathered friends at this time of year. I was familiar with the need for insects in female birds, but didn't realize that need existed as well for male birds. My feathered friends are slaughtering the monarch caterpillars feeding on the milkweed. It does not appear they are actually consuming any of them due to the taste, but they are killing them in the process. Unfortunately they are either not learning from their experience and just grabbing another one, as I observed with the cardinal, or there are a lot of birds seeking insects for a food source. Anyone tried providing mealworms? What kind of container did you place them in so they didn't just crawl off? Unfortunately by the time I can get any mailed to me it will probably be to late for this generation of monarchs. =================NOTES TO SUBSCRIBER===================== The TN-Bird Net requires you to SIGN YOUR MESSAGE with first and last name, CITY (TOWN) and state abbreviation.
