The Buffalo River (Lawrenceburg) CBC was conducted today (12/19). Eleven participants in 6 parties tallied 82 species, above average, but similar to recent years.. Highlights included a Long-tailed Duck at Laurel Hill Lake, Merlin (2), Lapland Longspur, Orange-crowned and Palm Warbler. Interesting numbers of more regular species included Cooper's Hawk (7), American Woodcock (13 from 4 parties), Eurasian Collared Dove (85), Loggerhead Shrike (30), Ruby=crowned Kinglet (3, very low), Rusty Blackbird (2), Brewer's Blackbird (6), Purple Finch (28 from 2 parties). Waterfowl was all but absent; only species found were Snow Goose (1), Canada Goose (78), Gadwall (3), Mallard (39), Hooded Merganser (5) and the Lt Duck. Damien SImbeck, Co-compiler Killen, AL
