This morning I went to look for what would have been my state first Willets at Snow Bunting Peninsula on the Davidson county side of Old Hickory Dam. Â They were no where to be seen (thanks a lot for the break in the weather today), but out on what is now a small Snow Bunting Island is a Brown Pelican, a few Great Blue Herons, 1 Caspian Tern, 1 Bonapartes Gull, and several Ring-Billed Gulls. Â A likely Least Sandpiper was out there running around, but I didn't have my scope with me. Â A drive around to the other side of the sand beach didn't reveal any Willets either, but a Canada Warbler was warming itself on the approach road just off Swinging Bridge Road, and didn't fly away until I backed up next to it for a closer look, when it flew to the roadside bushes and gave me great looks still. Â A Spotted Sandpiper was on the floating barrier around the swimming area. Â Nothing unusual was seen below the dam.
