Thursday after work I checked this field and found about 2 dozen Bobolinks. At first I parked at the edge of a driveway on the southeast corner of the field and saw only a Red-Tailed Hawk, several Eastern Meadowlarks, a loud Mockingbird, and Red-Winged Blackbirds, but driving to the northwest side of the field I heard an unfamiliar bird call from the stop sign where Del Rio Pike turns west. There is no room to park, so I turned around and drove north 150 yards to a subdivision and parked there on the side of the road and walked back in the weeds on the side of the road. I heard 1-2 Dickcissels, then heard and saw a flock of birds coming in for a landing, and it turned out to be the Bobolinks. About 1/3 were visible on tops of the plants, and the rest were invisible from the road. This was around 6:30pm. Thanks Jan for the heads up. TN#198 for the year. This is just north of White Hall subdivision and White Hall Dr. Some were in the vetch and others singing on top of the cedar trees that line that field. Wonderful songs! There was one singing Dickcissel there too.
