Yesterday evening, my family and I visited Harrell Road Stormwater Park in
Knox County. It's a relatively new park that's centered around
demonstration sites for different stormwater mitigation techniques, and it
also has a put-in for kayaks and canoes. It was our first time there, and
we were impressed with its birding potential. We observed about 20 species
while causally birding, including a long-elusive life bird for me -- Blue
Grosbeak -- who was singing on territory. Other highlights included Orchard
Oriole, Eastern Kingbird, and Common Yellowthroat. There were also many
native wildflowers in bloom in the meadows, including common milkweed,
butterfly weed, and passion flower.
