The NFLBIRDS listserv is a great place to ask for guidance. When I went to
Saint Marks NWR last year I was able to connect with an experienced local
through the listserv who offered to guide me through the park. It saved a lot
of time and we found a lot of really good life birds.

I’m not the best person to ask. I’ve had very limited experience there. But,
since no one else has chimed in (at least to the group as a whole), I will.
Early this year I was able to do some very limited birding from Pensacola to
Panama City. The best place we encountered was St. Andrews State Park near
Panama City (although that may be farther east than you were looking for).
Another place that wasn’t as good, but quite convenient and somewhat enjoyable
was the Navarre Beach Pier.
In the general area that you are staying, you might consider Fort Pickens. It
has more species reported than any other hotspot on eBird in that general area
(and fourth in the entire state of Florida, which definitely isn’t bad). You
have to reach it from Pensacola Beach. East and west of Pensacola Beach lies
the Gulf Islands National Seashore. Turn west to Fort Pickens. Turn east to
Navarre. We went east to Navarre. We weren’t as impressed with the birding
along the National Seashore as we thought that we might be, but we were
hampered by an unexpected Mardi Gras parade and the associated crowd in the
general area.
Best wishes to you. I hope that you have a great trip.

Good morning!
I have a trip planned to Perdido Key, Florida in the upper northwest corner on
the Gulf Coast for the third week in September. Migration should be in full
swing. I have never been there so any suggestions of birding hot spots would be
appreciated. I have found the following places as possibilities and also
checking eBird but thought someone may have personal experience in the area.
Perdido Key State Park
Big Lagoon State Park****
Tarkiln Bayou State Park
Pensacola
Thanks so much!
