Determined to get out and bird Walnut log Rd. I left the house about 7 AM with
binoculars in hand. I checked Buckalew Slough on 157 and found 14 Snipe, two
Least SP, 2 Pied Billed Grebe, and a group of 6 ducks that took flight and
left before I got on them . Probably Woodies. Walnut log was really
disappointing. Besides being very quiet and very little activity you took your
life in your hands everytime you got out of the car. The mosquitoes would swarm
you. After driving down Walnut Log Road to the observation tower and back I
stopped at a favorite area at the parking lot for the boat ramp by a large
"clump" of berry bushes where in the past it has yielded a variety of birds,
except for Cardinals and a brown Thrasher it was quiet. I check part of the
lake in Samburg, etc and it yielded the usual DC Cormorant, Great Egrets, AM.
Bald Eagle, GB Herons. No Gulls or Terns noted. I felt like I was on the
"Avian Desert" today.
