Twenty-one birders participated in the KTOS field trip this morning in Loudon Co. We met at 8:30 at the Tellico boat house. Tony King then led us out to Windy Hill Farm (off of Rte 444 and Poplar Springs). We waited about an hour for the fog to lift before we could see one Bald Eagle in the nest and one adult bird in a nearby tree. We also saw an adult fly by us carrying nesting materials. At 10:30, Tony took us up on a ridge on the river's south bank, where we could look down in a nest at two 6-week-old immature Bald Eagles. An adult flew restlessly above us the entire time. Back at the Tellico boathouse, we saw that the Cliff Swallows have returned. We also saw an Osprey and several Cormorants.
