March 27, 2005 The American Golden-Plover observed by Rob Biller and Don Holt yesterday evening on Turner Lane in Greene County was still present this morning when I visited the site. I arrived at 7:53 and immediately spotted the bird on the left side of Turner Lane just past the barn complex at the entrance. I observed it for the next half hour, savoring details of plumage and behavior. I'm not familiar with the molt cycle of American Golden-Plover, but I was somewhat surprised to find this bird still in basic plumage at the end of March. The weather was darkening as I left, so I think it unlikely that the bird will fly immediately. During the time I observed it, it appeared to be resting, preening, and occasionally feeding--generally taking things easy. If anyone within reasonable driving distance wishes to have a go at finding the plover, I judge the odds of success to be pretty good. By the way, as far as I know, this is the first record of American Golden-Plover in Greene County. Nice find, Don and Rob.
