Yesterday afternoon (Feb 6th) while driving down Alto Road in Franklin County a Red-headed Woodpecker flew in front of my car. This is the first one that I've seen in the county since moving here 18 months ago. In the town of Decherd, I saw a (presumed) male Eurasian Collared-Dove vigorously courting a (presumed) female. Does anyone know when the breeding season is for this species in TN? When I lived in England, they could be found breeding year-round. Finally, a belated report of four Sandhill Cranes seen on January 31st. They flew over the car as I was driving down Hwy 64, approximately 4 miles north of Decherd.
