Seven warbler species in the yard (west Knox Co) this morning (24 April) which is a high count so far this year. Best being at least one FOS BLACKBURNIAN Warbler. A male Hooded Warbler gave me some fits as it was singing a wide variety of songs from at least 30ft up in a tree. I had to see this one before I was convinced it really was a Hooded. Earlier, while walking one of our dogs, I heard a very nasal CAW. It immediately registered as Fish Crow in my brain. I looked up and saw a crow flying over which twice more gave the nasal CAW. Wing shape and wing beat speed and flight style all looked good for Fish Crow. Other places I probably wouldn't have even took note of this bird and just called it a Fish Crow. I'm about 95% certain that's what it was. This is about 12-14 miles from Lyon's Bend area where Susan, Marcia, and Chris have their Fish Crows (opposite end of the Knoxville CBC circle) and about 10-12 miles from where I've had them in northern Blount Co but very close to Solway area and Melton Hill Lake. Some highlights from the yard the past few days: Red-eyed Vireo, 4/22, 4/24 House Wren, 4/23 FOS, 4/24 Yellow Warbler, 4/24 FOS "Myrtle" Yellow-rumped Warbler, several each day 4/22-4/24 Black-throated Green Warbler, 4/23 FOS finally, almost a month late, 4/24 (2) Blackburnian Warbelr, 4/24 FOS Palm Warbler, 4/24 Black-and-white Warbler, 4/23, 4/24 Worm-eating Warbler, 4/22 Hooded Warbler, 4/24 Scarlet Tanager, 4/22 FOS, 4/23, 4/24 around the parking lot at work (Hardin Valley exit on Pellissippi, west Knox Co): White-eyed Vire, daily Prairie Warbler, 4/22 FOS Yellow-breasted Chat, 4/22 FOS Dean Edwards Knoxville, TN =================NOTES TO SUBSCRIBER===================== The TN-Bird Net requires you to SIGN YOUR MESSAGE with first and last name, CITY (TOWN) and state abbreviation.
