Rutherford Co. Florence Rd. area near I-440/I-24 July 3, 2004 10:30 - 11:30 am Like Terry Witt, I went in search of the Scissor-tailed Flycatchers yesterday. After looking for perhaps 20 minutes around their nest pole area, I found them on the wires just as you head into Heatherwood Drive, which a couple poles to the east of their former nest pole. This road goes to the right from Florence Rd. and is just after one crosses the bridge over I-24 that is slightly north of I-440. This area is within "spitting" distance of both I-24 and I-440. The adult Scissor-tailed Flycatchers have actually fledged 4 young birds. All six got together on the wires for a pre Fourth of July party. Once mom flew up to the wire and was quickly flanked by a pair of young "teenagers" on either side of her. What a special sight! The parents were foraging in the very large bowl depression that was just behind the wires. I also found a Dicksissel, announcing it presence with song, along the edge of the bowl area. -- Frank Fekel Tennessee State University Center of Excellence in Information Systems 330 10th Avenue North Nashville, TN 37203 USA =================NOTES TO SUBSCRIBER===================== The TN-Bird Net requires you to sign your messages with first and last name, city (town) and state abbreviation. ----------------------------------------------------- ---------------------------------------------------- To post to this mailing list, simply send email to: tn-bird@xxxxxxxxxxxxxx ----------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, send email to: tn-bird-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx with 'unsubscribe' in the Subject field. * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * TN-Bird Net is owned by the Tennessee Ornithological Society Neither the society(TOS) nor its moderator(s) endorse the views or opinions expressed by the members of this discussion group.
