Today, Saturday, Feb. 27, I estimated 2000 Sandhill Cranes flying north over my
place in southern Cumberland County (a few miles southwest of Lake Tansi). They
were in numerous variably-sized flocks, with at most about 500 in view/earshot
at one time. Most of the activity was between 10:15 AM and 12:15 PM. It's GREAT
living under the flyway between Hiwassee and the breeding grounds. (Still
looking for a Whooping Crane among them without success.)
