Hi,

There's also another very simple and relatively inexpensive work-around that
we've used recently with a really dumb application that wanted the printer name
hardcoded for each and every one of about 600 users with about 400 separate
printers.

There's a product called Fineprint that installs as a printer on the server,
and then lets you redirect the print job (and modify the look and feel etc
including custom document templates). So the dumb app prints to a printer
called Fineprint and the user can then specify where the print job will go.
Works brilliantly and ended up costing less than $10 a head. Maintenance
overhead is zero.

regards,

Hi Chad,

Have you read anything about ThinPrint? There are plenty of white papers
available. It works on top of Citrix environment and Terminal Server
enchancing/optimizing the printing.

Screwdrivers from Tricerat? You can speficy your own printer name format (plus
all the additional benefits of not hassling with drivers, etc).

I have a set of servers, running an application on MPS 3.0, that I want
to upgrade to PS 4.0, in my new farm.

The application uses a printer which is specified in the INI for the
application, for each user.

IN MPS 3.0 the long printer naming is client\clientname#\printer, but
in PS 4.0, it is client/clientname/printer.

In order to upgrade the servers, I would need to alter hundreds of
roaming profiles, changing each one's INI file to the new naming....

        Any better suggestions?
