Hello again: So the new server hardware has come in (Thanks for everyone's previous hardware input), and now I have to plan switching over the entire farm. The 4 W2K Citrix MF 1.8 servers I plan to do first, and I can handle pretty well, but I am feeling pretty shaky about replacing the DC's. I have found a wealth of information on thethin already, but I was hoping for some pointers: Current setup: 2DC's, upgraded from NT4 to W2K long ago, and so still named PDC & BDC. Running: DNS, DHCP, AD Current plan: First: Demote the old BDC and remove it from the network (reset AD), install new BDC & DCpromo it. This will replicate the AD from the PDC. Question #1: Will it replicate the DNS when it does the AD? Question #2: Do the Domain (controller) Security policies get copied during this? Question #3: Can I run in Native mode if I have w98 machines on the network (not a citrix connection, a network connected computer), but everything else is W2K, XP, Linux? (All of the servers are W2K, I'm betting it's already in Native mode. How can I tell, btw?) Next: Install Term Serv licensing on BDC. Switch over the FSMO roles from PDC to BDC, set BDC to run the Global Catalog, unpromote old PDC & unplug it from network (reset AD for PDC on BDC), Question #4: Currently, both servers are running the Global Catalog. Is this a good practice to continue? Question #5: What problems will PDC have with Terminal Services licensing being on the BDC while it's offline? (I assume you just can't log in through Term Services.) Last: Plug in new PDC, dcpromo it thus copying over AD & DNS, switch back over the FSMO Roles & include it on the Global Catalog, set up DHCP, set shared folders for Citrix user Profiles & Home directories. This skips a few steps like OS install, SP's, some .bat files, but does anyone see something I have overlooked, or know of some good sites that I should look at before going through with this?
