Try this. Reset the -s and -h attribs on index.dat, deltree /y the history
submap. It will still be there but your IE history will diminish
dramatically.

IE uses this as part of the history system of your web browsing. You can
clear the history but this little bugger never shrinks, although things have
changed and there are two new mm???.dat files that do a lot of that work.
Just do a search in the MS Knowledge base on it and you will find plenty of
info.
